Frequently Asked Questions
How old do I need to be to perform?
There is no minimum age requirement. Applications are assessed on a case-by-case basis.
The suitability of the performer, venue, material and event will all be considered.
Can I perform if I am under 18?
Yes.
Grassroots Comedy provides opportunities for performers under the age of 18, subject to the requirements outlined on this page.
Do I need a parent or guardian with me?
Yes.
A parent, guardian or responsible adult must accompany you and remain onsite for the duration of your attendance.
Can I attend by myself if I am 16 or 17?
No.
All performers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.
What venues can I perform at?
Currently approved venues are:
Leederville Comedy Club
Bassendean Hotel
Guildford Hotel
These venues may change from time to time.
Why can't I perform at Northbridge events?
With collaboration and as decided with the Licensed venues, Grassroots Comedy has determined that Northbridge events are not suitable for performers under the age of 18.
This decision has been made to support the safety and wellbeing of young performers.
Do I need to sign any paperwork?
Yes.
All performers under the age of 18 must complete a Minor Performer Agreement before performing.
The agreement must be renewed annually.
Do my parents need to sign the agreement?
Yes.
A parent or legal guardian must complete and sign the agreement.
Will my material be reviewed?
Performers under the age of 16 may be asked to provide information about their material before performing.
This helps ensure the material is appropriate for the performer, audience and venue environment.
Can I perform adult material?
Comedy is a creative art form and performers are encouraged to develop their own voice.
However, Grassroots Comedy may decline material that is considered inappropriate, unsafe or unsuitable for the performer or venue environment.
Can I be paid for performing?
This may depend on the event and performance opportunity.
Any payment arrangements will be discussed directly with the performer and parent or guardian where applicable.
Will photos or videos of me be posted online?
No.
Grassroots Comedy does not use performers under the age of 18 in promotional photography, social media content or marketing campaigns.
Can my set be filmed?
Audience filming is not permitted without permission.
Additional restrictions may apply where performers under the age of 18 are involved.
